I write all the time about Savannah and Emery, but I’ve never mentioned my 2 other kids, so I thought I would write a little about them today. Here is a picture:
Before Jeremy and I had our own babies we sponsored a 10 year old little girl from Bolivia through World Vision. We would get updates every year on the village where she lived and every so often, we’d get a hand written note or picture from her. I could not pronounce her name, but when I’d pray for her, I’d call her Allie and I was sad last year when I learned her family had moved out of the area where World Vision could reach her.
I agreed to sponsor another child and then decided on having 2. They asked if I had any specifications like gender or nationality, and I asked if I could pick their birthdates. In the end we are sponsoring the little girl above, Bienvenida from the Dominican Republic, who was born exactly one week before Savannah, and also the little boy with the soccer ball, Jorge from Honduras, who shares Emery’s birthday.
What better way to teach my kids what Jesus meant when he said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me” (Matt. 25:40), than to talk to them about these children and pray for them together? It’s an exciting opportunity! Maybe one day we will even be able to go and see one or both of them. Wouldn’t that be cool???
If you have ever thought about sponsoring a child somewhere and just didn’t know which organization to partner with, check out World Vision’s website. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with them. We get updates on our children and their communities. For their birthday, Easter, and Christmas World Vision prepares cards with sticker books that I just sign and send back to them so they can forward it to the kids. We can correspond with them as often as we like. And the World Vision staff is always incredibly helpful and courteous.
So go ahead. What are you waiting for? It’s only around $30 a month to impact a child just like your own. And you’d spend thirty dollars to educate and vaccinate them, right???

What an AWESOME thing to do. And you got 2 more CUTE kids to boot. :)
(cereal review is posted and I’ll do the meme when I get back on Sunday – it will take some thought)
So sweet! We sponsor a little boy from Honduras too. His name is Cesar. While we were there at Good Samaritan mission, we got to pick him. At the time, we did not have children of our own. In fact, he and his family began praying that we would be able to conceive, since we were having trouble at the time! The really neat thing is that about a year later, Noah was born on Cesar’s birthday – January 11th. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to build him a new house! It is so exciting to get letters and pictures each month. I can’t wait for my children to meet him one day! And you are right – it is a great way to teach our children!
My current little cutie is named Hannahrose (through Children International). When I began being a sponsor with CI…about 25+ years ago, I was helping mostly to pay for surgeries for children born with horrific birth defects. There were quite a number of them because as one’s surgery and recovery were completed they would assign another child to me. But Hannahrose is new to me this year. She is from a very poor family in the Phillipines. Before her I had a girl – also from the Phillipines – named Richelle. I had her for many years, but she turned 18 last year, so it was on to another. It was very nice to see Richelle grow…and I’m looking forward to many years of watching Hannahrose grow, too.
Thank you, Lord, for these families making a difference in the lives of children on the other side of the globe. And, if it would please You, grant them the opportunity to meet these children face-to-face here on earth. May Your Name be glorified!
