He’s only been receiving haircuts for 2 years, you would think I could have taken a picture of his “first haircut” before now. But he’s the second child. And some of the milestones get, um, shall we say, overlooked in children with an older sibling? I’m not saying it’s right, I’m just saying…it happens.
I wish I could post the pictures of him at 6 months old, right before his actual first haircut. I was still clinging tightly to my 36 mm Rebel, not sure the digital age was for me, so the only pictures I have are the old fashioned kind that you hold in your hand. But let me paint a picture for you: we called him “The Donald”.
Thankfully his hair grew out of that awful comb-over stage and began filling in underneath. It’s baby fine and straight as a board, but that is okay because he still loves to rub food in it, and the texture makes in next to impossible to get tangles or knots in there.
I can’t imagine that one day Emery will be flipping through his baby scrapbook, stop suddenly and with a look of disappointment ask me why there are no photos of his first haircut. (Savannah…yes. Emery…no.) And while I do feel a little bad about it, I have been able to hang onto the locket of hair from his first cut. With enough journaling, a few pictures, the hair, and some creativity, I should be able to fix up some kind of page for his scrapbook. And that counts for something, right?

Oh how sweet. I took my little guy for a haircut while in Ontario at one of those cool kids places like you have there. It was so neat and my little guy was totally distracted and didn’t even realize they were cutting his hair. Now that I’m back home I’m in real trouble because of course we don’t have places like that here and I have a feeling he will freak out :(
As a second child…second girl…middle child, I understand! He’ll survive. I did. :)
I’m sure you’ll find some creative way to preserve the memory! We always do – don’t we? Have I ever told you that Colby’s first haircut is in black and white. I had the old fashioned camera too, and when we got to the barber, the only film in my camera bag was black and white film. So, there you go!
You mean they look instantly older every single time they get a haircut?! I don’t know if I can stand it :)
Sam’s first haircut was under anesthesia. Remind me to tell you about it sometime!
