This happened a while ago and I just couldn’t bring myself to post it on a Tink Talk Tuesday until now. Mainly because it says way more about me than it does the tiny talkers around here.
It was about a week or so after Christmas. The rush was over. The house was a wreck. The kids were crashing from their sugar highs. And then there was Stafford.
The Christmas pup the children adored and I was going to have to learn to love. I was getting up twice during the night to let him out to pee. He’s an 8 week old shih tzu so his bladder is like the size of a, ummm, lima bean? I dunno. All I know is he has to go…all the time!
This particular day it was all catching up with me. I was tired and stressed and everybody was getting on my nerves. Around 4:00 I took Stafford outside to use the bathroom and came back in to start supper. The kids began their pre-dinner whining about how they were staving and needed a snack. When I said “No” it turned into crying and pouting, so I dished out a couple of “Go to your rooms!!!”, which created even more crying and much stomping of feet up the steps.
Savannah had taken Stafford with her to her room. I swear only about 10 minutes had passed since I had witnessed him peeing in the yard. Next thing I know she is telling me he had an accident in her room!
Yeah, and they thought THEY could stomp their feet! I was so mad. I picked him up, swatted his fuzzy butt, and fussed at him all the way to his crate in the basement. By the time I got back upstairs the tears were flowing freely. Then I heard Jeremy’s truck in the driveway. He was home early.
I met him outside and after one look at my face he knew I was loosing it. “What’s wrong? Kids? Dog? What?”
“It’s EVERYTHING!”, I said.
He gave me a hug and we headed inside. The first person he saw was Savannah. “Hey Sweetie”, he said. “What’s going on?”
She looked at him very matter of fact and explained, “Well Stafford just had an accident in my room and Mommy got mad at him. She said that we wouldn’t keep this frickin dog if you didn’t spend so much stupid money on him.”
Jeremy looked over at me. My mouth was gaping open. I had never heard a 5 year old use the word “frickin” before. I was so busted. And I had lots of explaining and apologizing to do that night! Lesson learned!!!!

I’m sometimes forget that my son will repeat most of what I say. Even when he doesn’t seem to be paying attention, he hears what I say.
Oh, I remember the days when I would hear myself through my children. Rather scary! Actually not the words so much as the tone I would hear coming back at me. Pretty humbling be a parent…
I was crying with laughter on this one! Sounds just like a bad dayat my house, only R (5) has picked up ‘idiot’ and ‘cr.ap’ from me!
Yikes! Funny but convicting too! So glad I found your site – you sound like Anne of Green Gables’ “kindred spirit” to me! I’ll be sure to
be back often!
Andrea
Hilarious! and I can so relate :)
Oh – I think this is the reason I love this blog so much! You remind me that I am not the only mom who has my experiences!!
Did you happen to notice that the Motivation for Moms quote (which by the way is one of my favorite things) talks about teaching your children to bridle their tongues?!? Been there, done that!
hehe too cute!!!
ok, so glad to know that I’m not the only one this happenS to. Notice I did not say the only one this happenED to! LOL
Oh. My. Goodness. I’m laughin’ hard here. I’ve been busted before too. Makes me swear they are really just tape recorders!
I had one of those days yesterday! Lots of stomping and raising of the voice! I read Lam. 2:22-24 before I went to bed and thanked the Lord for His mercies which are new every morning. In my study I found that His mercies will be in the correct proportion to what we will need for that day. Be encouraged!!!!
Excuse me Lam. 3:22-24. Typing too fast!
Oh, I am so glad you felt like you could post this now.
God’s love covers our mistakes.
I did have a good laugh though, cause I can relate…and those kids….they remember every word!
Do we get to hear Jeremy’s comments?
I propose not to hold back until you earn enough cash to order all you need! You can take the business loans or just student loan and feel comfortable
