In an effort to knock down some of the language barriers when Jeremy and I go to Honduras in June, I dug this out of the movie cabinet today:
Savannah watched this all the time when she was about Emery’s age, but then one day it got put up and forgot about. There are many things making me nervous as the day of our departure gets closer and closer, but one of my biggest concerns is that I don’t speak Spanish. I mean, I can say “hello” and “goodbye”, and thanks to Speedy Gonzalez, “hurry hurry, faster faster”! But that is the extent of my foreign language abilities.
This video is pretty good and by the time I leave I should be able to count to 10, name farm animals, ask “how many?”, and sing the catchy playground song at the end. Sure, I won’t be the one telling the children bedtime stories, but at least I will sound like I have some sort of clue!

You could always borrow my Enrique cd’s, too, but I’m not sure how many of his phrases would actually come in handy on a mission trip!! :0
Don’t worry. Some of your most precious memories will be hearing someone share the
gospel then hear it translated. It’s amazing. Also, the kids know love in any language!
You might want to find out how to ask where the bathroom is.
You crack me up! When we stayed a month in Honduras, we actually took Spanish lessons from their Spanish teacher at the school. Trust me, you’ll do fine. But you will enjoy yourself more if you know a few words. Oh, and Nanny is right – Donde esta el bano?
We find that people are excited that you are even TRYING to learn their language! You’ll do great…and I agree that if you can get a few phrases or words under your belt YOU’LL feel better about being in a foreign culture…
