Have you ever read a book that was so good and contained so much great information and was so completely eye opening that you wanted to tell the whole world they MUST read this book, but you had no idea what to say? How could you possibly condense all the wonderful nuggets of truth into a few small tantilizing statements? I just don’t know where to begin.
This book was handed to me randomly as I left for Disney World a few weeks ago. I threw it into my carry-on not knowing if I’d have a chance to read it or not. As it turned out, Jeremy sat with the kids on the plane and I was in the next row over. I decided to pull it out to see what it was about.
It’s a short flight from here to Orlando but I couldn’t put it down. The author, Kelly Minter, is a fantastic writer. I would be in tears one minute, laughing out loud the next. I love books that challenge me and this one has done just that.
The basis of the book has to do with our modern day idols. Sure, we don’t have a golden calf in our living room, but what is your greatest treasure? Where does your heart really lie? My favorite question Kelly asks is, “Do you worship the One while serving the others?” Ah…worship vs serving. And an even bigger question, does God accept our worship while we are serving the others???
I have to tell ya, about halfway through the book I really began to see the light. And thus began my fight with the flesh. I can’t remember a time I’ve battled quite like this. But I can say with confidence that it’s completely real. It’s physically exhausting as a matter of fact.
But through it all I have hope that it’s not in vain. I have faith that tearing down these idols will bring me into a closer relationship with the Lord. And the fact that Satan is bringing out the big guns only confirms to me that there is some kind of major blessing waiting on the other side. So bring it on…this girls’ ready for some changes!

Sounds like a great book for our times.

Sounds great! God is so good!
I hear ya! I’m in the middle of the bible study and God is really working on my right now. I started out with the usual idols, TV, computer, kids,
the usual stuff on the surface. Man, was I in for it when the real work began!!
Oooh – do you worship One while serving another? Thought pondering, for sure. That is also what the Beth Moore Daniel study is about if you want to take it further.
