So I finished my Daily Bible this morning. I made a goal last year to read the bible all the way through, and while it did take me longer than 365 days (this is January 2nd afterall), I’m still counting it!
And can I just say how much I loved reading this particular bible? It is so awesome!!! My sister made a comment a few weeks ago about how she could never take a year to focus just on reading like that. She said she just doesn’t understand it when she sits down and reads scripture without a study guide.
I didn’t have anything to say to her at the time because I had always felt the same way. But the more I thought about why I liked reading it the way that I did, I think I may have an answer for her argument.
The bible is a book, right? A book that contains lots of chapters. Now imagine another book with lots of chapters. Any book. But let’s say you only read a few of the chapters in the book. How well would you know what’s going on? Now take those chapters and move them out of sequential order. It would get a little confusing, wouldn’t it?
Reading “The Daily Bible” has been eye opening for me because not only have I read all the chapters, but the author put the details in chronological order. For example, take the book of Acts. When I’m reading along in Acts and get to one of Paul’s journey’s, this book puts the corresponding letter that he wrote in regards to those people right there where it makes sense. Or the gospels, for instance. Instead of reading all four, they are combined (and referenced) in the most likely order that the events of Christ’s life and times took place. Same with the Old Testament, especially in Kings.
I can admit that there were several times this past year that I felt like putting a hold on my daily reading. Some mornings were dry as a bone and I longed for a Beth Moore study to spark my interest in the Word. But the truth is, I held out in obedience and I believe reading the bible from front to back will benefit my Walk in the years to come.
Go ahead and do it too. Ya know ya want to! :)

So, are you going to start over and do it again this year? :-)
I don’t think I said that I couldn’t take a year to read the Bible. I would love to do that sometime. I just can’t sit down to a random portion of scripture and glean as much on my own w/out all the background information. Just deeper, not futile.
It would be cool to learn it in a chronological order. Makes more sense to me.
