So we’ve spent a lot of time at Field 8 the past 2 months. I’ve got to say, watching Emery learn to play baseball is probably the most fun I’ve had all year. What a hoot!
Initially, when Jeremy first wanted to discuss signing him up to play, I was apprehensive. I wan’t ready to be a team mom. To begin hauling my kids to practices and games every night of the week. To have our family calendar dictated by my 5 year olds schedule. Weren’t there many more years of that to come???
But I gave in, because honestly, the boy’s been throwing a ball ever since he could stand up. “Ball” was his first word. To step and throw is as natural to him as breathing in and out. Who am I to stifle that kind of talent?
Imagine our pride and joy when our little ball player earned the game ball one night! Three outs at first base, hitting the ball from the pitch, and 3 RBI’s!!! Jeremy confessed later that he almost cried. Apparently there really is something about sports that brings a father and son together.
The season seemed to end too soon as the Kentucky Wildcats went into the playoffs undefeated. We had one loss during the tournament and as it came down to the championship game, we realized we were going to have to play the team that had beat us.
We were so happy for our boys who were able to work together and pull out a win! They were all so proud of their medals and coach David did an awesome job of praising them and acknowledging each of them for how far they’d come in 2 short months.
I’ve been silently wondering how Emery will handle not getting to play ball with his new friends everyday, and curious as to how much he thinks about Tball now that the season is over. Then tonight, when asked about what heaven will be like to him, he says “there will be a cake the size of our house, and it will have rainbow sprinkles on it, with an angel on top, wearing a Kentucky Wildcats hat”.
I guess that answers my question.

I just can’t tell you how fond I am of coach Taylor. I’m thrilled that he was Emery’s first coach and that Emery’s first introduction to organized sports was such a fun, positive experience. Coach Taylor’s never ending patience, encouragement, training and moral character are the best. We enjoyed the games and are looking forward to next year, too.
Ooops…that is Coach Tabor!!
