On July 2nd, Emery turned 4 years old. This year I will focus his birthday post on all thing Emery and refrain from mentioning anything about “2 days of labor”, “loooooong delivery”, or “almost 10 pounds!!!”
Or not.
Since his birthday falls close to Independence Day, and we were already planning a big family get-together, it just made sense this year to wait and have his party on Saturday. He thinks the fireworks are for him anyways. Why ruin a good thing?
I did use his actual birth date as an excuse to get Jeremy to take the family to see the new Ice Age movie. Which is hilarious, by the way. I’m looking for another reason to go and watch it, because yes, it was that funny!
And then on Friday night we went with Nanny and Grampa to Toys R Us and let him pick out what he wanted for his birthday. We already knew “the best present in the whole world and Africa” was Better, Batter Baseball but we hadn’t purchased it yet and so we let him go with us.
Do you know that was the first time either of my kids had ever been to Toys R Us? And by the looks of it, it may have been Jeremy’s first time too!
By the time Saturday night rolled around, Emery was ready to celebrate some more! His year long request for a Spiderman cake was trumped at the last minute by Shrek, so the candles were lit on this:
I am hoping the desire to change his mind at the drop of a hat is a product of being 3 and will soon be forgotten now that he is entering the big 0-4. Emery is consumed with all things “big boy”, unless it pertains to blankie or his right thumb.
As he gets older I see in him such leadership and confidence. He doesn’t have a shy bone in his body and I hope this develops into such a strength for him. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, but he is still the funniest kid I’ve ever met. His perspective on things and his sense of humor are always right on cue.
So this is for you, my little baseball throwin’-finger shootin’-joke tellin’-movie quotin’-thumb suckin’ handsome boy. We all love you SO much (even Sissy), and are thankful for every day we have you around. Keep smiling that sweet smile and living life to the fullest!

How cute! I hope he had a great birthday! I think his and Logan’s humor would go hand in hand together!
I’m glad the Toys R Us experience went so well, even for Jeremy! LOL! That is too funny that all he wanted was Better Batter Baseball…that is all Logan has talked about for months too. He was calling it Batter Batter Baseball and then I finally found it and saw the real name. We will probably see that item around here in Octoboer for his big 4. Glad to hear you guys liked Ice Age too, ours are wanting to see it.
