In honor of my 35th birthday today (thank you very much), a list of 40 things I hope to accomplish before I turn 40!
1. Pay off a vehicle.
2. Run a 5k. (May 2009)
3. Hang curtains on all the windows of my home.
4. Learn to play golf. (I did get out there a whack it a few times in ’09 confirming the fact that I do, indeed, need lessons!)
5. Read 2 classics: “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Little Women”.
6. Finish “East of Eden”.
7. Give homeschooling a try.
8. Go on a mission trip.
9. Get my scrapbooks up to date (Can’t believe I can cross this off!!! Yay!)
10. Learn to thread my sewing machine. (At this point I’m wondering why I ever wanted to do this?????)
11. Find a hairstyle I like and stick with it! (Long hair seems to be working for me)
12. Complete Crown Financials Budget Counseling Course. (7/29/07)
13. Begin counseling. (4/08)
14. Make homemade strawberry jam.
15. Take my husband to Chicago.
16. See New York city at Christmas. (12/8/06)
17. Arm myself with knowledge about controlling hot flashes!
18. Get over my fear of flying.
19. Take my kids to see “real” snow.
20. Finish this list!!!! (12/24/06)
21. Become a ScreamFree Parent. (A work in progress!)
22. Watch “Gone with the Wind” all the way through and see what all the fuss is about.
23. Take a gun safety course.
24. Learn how to do more with my camera than point and click. (Took a class in January ’09, but so far all I’ve done from the class is format my memory card. That was money well spend, ey?)
25. Talk my husband into getting a dog, “for the kids”.
26. Back up important data on my computer
27. Disciple 5 people (One down…do my kids count for this one? If so, then 1 down and 2 in progress)
28. Make a quilt for my niece’s high school graduation gift. (5/16/08)
29. Love, hug, and smile more.
30. Practice saying the word “menopause” without throwing up a little bit in my mouth. (With my recent “female issues” I’m kinda looking forward to menopause.)
31. Throw the ole “martyr routine” out the window…and JUST SAY NO! (I am doing really good on this one! Now if only I can do it without feeling guilty about it!)
32. Create fun family traditions. (A work in progress…)
33. Make it a habit to look my husband in the eye when he is talking, rather than treating him like he is background noise to whatever I am doing with the kids (why is this one so hard to do???).
34. Celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary in STYLE.
35. Plan a 40th wedding anniversary party for my parents.
36. Get on the treadmill at least 30 minutes a day (yeah, right! Maybe in ’08 ’09).
37. Call my friends regularly who do not have email.
38. Organize my favorite recipes (Last year I was almost done with this and yet here I am, still not finished).
39. Maintain well manicured nails. (I’ve stopped picking at them, does that count???)
40. Teach the children how to perform all the household chores so I can sit around eating bon bons and sipping champagne!!! (Getting closer!)

If you start with #40, you have a good shot at accomplishing #5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 14, 17, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 37, 38 and 39! Some of these are still on my “to do” list…and if I’m going to do them before I’m 60 I’d better get on it!!!
man…i am 56 and my list does not include any of those things…my list does include a pedicure every 4 months with at home touchups in between, eat less chocolate, keep saying no and hug my family more. i wish you the best with all of your goals and somehow, i think you will accomplish them all! happy birthday and merry christmas in a few minutes. now go to bed!
Happy belated birthday Jodi! I looked for you Sunday but something tells me
you were not there after just catching up on your blog. Computer
is still down at our house!
Well, coming from someone who just turned 40 that is a long list firiend!
I respect you for making your list now go for it!
This is a neat idea! But I better make my list soon because I only have two years to do it!
Oh, and I just had to comment on the dog thing. I was the only one in my family who didn’t want a dog, but deep down I knew a dog would be good, so I researched one and I found the PERFECT indoor dog that most people don’t know about.
The Cavalier King Charles is a small 10-13 lb. dog that looks like a cute cocker spaniel, but has a wonderful obedient spirit. He can be a lap dog and run and play like any other dog.
So maybe armed with the right information, you can talk your husband into one before your 40th!
Love your list, I need to begin one for myself too!
