It’s that time of year again! Samaritans Purse sends thousands of shoe boxes full of goodies to hurting children all over the world. Usually we participate in this through our church, but this year Savannah’s preschool is sending shoe boxes, so we will send ours with her on Thursday of this week.
Here is one of the shoe boxes that Savannah and I put together this weekend. After Operation Christmas Child last year, we began saving all the toys that came in her kids meals. After a while it was fun for her and she would come right home and put the toys in her “Samaritan Bag” in the pantry. If anyone asked her about it, she would tell them those are toys for kids that don’t have toys.
I was really happy to be finding a good home for them too. Lord knows we don’t need anymore toys to trip over in this house! So Savannah put 3 toys in each shoe box, then we went to Walmart and bought crayons, a note pad, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. After we packed up all the boxes and prayed for the children that would receive them, we marked if they were for a boy or girl and added in a $7.00 check for shipping and handling.
A very inexpensive way to put a smile on the face of child far away. If you would like to participate, they will be accepting shoe boxes from Nov. 13-20. Check their website for more details and pick up locations.
