As opposed to: Family [comma] get away. This 3 day weekend was not prompted by mommy’s need to be away from her family, but instead, it was planned a couple months ago as a way to reconnect with not only my husband and kids, but with my parents and sister as well.
Every year we try to all go away together to a cabin or two, just to spend quality time with each other, playing games or taking in local scenery. I would have to say the highlight for me this year was the cabin itself. There was no need for us to leave. It had all the comforts and amenities right there that we could have ever needed.
Not only was Solitude a beautiful, big, new cabin in the Blue Ridge mountains, it also boasted a hot tub, pool table, Sony Playstation, and plasma TV’s with satellite reception. I knew Jeremy would be happy about that ever since the year we rented cabins with NO televisions during college football season! I think we’ve only made that mistake once! Ha!
The best part about this place for me was just that it was so warm and “homey”. I could not sit anywhere, on any piece of furniture, without there being a fleecy, fuzzy, comfy blanket perfect for cuddling up with and taking a nap. I don’t know how many times I dozed off in front of the fireplace.
We did leave the premises once to visit the local apple orchard. It was very nice and had the most yummy apple cider EVER. Oh, and the fried pie. I almost forgot about that. Probably because I inhaled it so quickly there was barely any evidence that it ever exsisted. Oh my gosh, it was soooooo good!!!!
I would post some pictures of our weekend but I never even took my camera out of car. Not because there were no breath taking views of the sun coming up over the mountains each morning. Not because there were not enough deer to photograph on the 4.2 mile trek up the mountain to our cabin. And not because my family wasn’t cute enough snuggled up together reading books, playing pool together, or warming their wet backsides by the fireplace.
Just plain and simple: I was off. I took the weekend off. I relaxed. And I enjoyed every bit of it!
