The Good:
The Bad:
And The Ugly:
I have lived in Georgia for, ummm, 16 years now and the pollen never ceases to amaze me. Seriously! I am shocked every year at how bad it is. The first few years here I learned the hard way that no one around these parts enjoys a warm spring breeze by opening up all the windows in the house. And NEVER….EVER…go in to work in the morning and leave your car windows down for the day! Oh my Heavens! It took me at least 3 years to remember that and pine pollen is nearly impossible to get out of all the nooks and crannies of the dash board!
Today’s pollen count is 3579. Anything over 120 is considered “extreme”. I don’t know how people with allergies survive here. Emery seems to be the one it’s affecting the most in our house. Of course, he is also the one with itchy eyes and a watery nose in the middle of January! He takes decongestant every morning the way some people take their fiber. Helps him to be a “regular” boy. (I should stop and mention here that I am only kidding about that. If my grandma gets a hold of this entry I am likely to end up with a stack of newspaper clippings she’s collected talking about children becoming addicted to medication.)
Now, back to the pine pollen. This morning I was driving along when I noticed up ahead that it was awfully foggy for 9:30. Then I realized it was yellow pollen in the air! I couldn’t believe it! You think that I would after, what did I say, 16 years? The last picture I posted above is the top of a table that sits in our screened in porch. I had cleaned everything off last week so we could eat dinner outside one night. In less than 7 days it was so thick I could write in it and the fact that the area is screened in, offers it some protection. Everything that sits outside is just a mess. And get this, when we do go outside to enjoy the beautiful weather, I can actually taste it. It reminds me of standing in the outfield during a softball game. It’s a hot, July day. It hasn’t rained in weeks. All of a sudden, the wind picks up and a huge cloud of dirt is blown in my face.
That taste. Dirt and grit. That is what pollen tastes like. Blah.
I think I will end this now and for the remainder of my kids naptime I will pray for rain!

oh no – that’s it… we’re not coming to visit now!! thankfully we don’t have pollen issues like that in the UK. Lucky us to be visiting right now, huh? ick, ick, ick.
I’m feeling sneezy just thinking about it..
Feelin’ the same in Mississippi! I don’t have spring allergies, but my husband and twins do. I feel for them–they are MISERABLE.
Looks exactly the same around here!
Glad I could educate you on Elvis history! I even did a research paper on him in college–so go ahead, ask me anything!
When I first looked at the picture of your outside table, I thought the writing was a snake! Unfortunately, I’m not sure which is worse – a snake or thick pollen?
