I’d like to take an opportunity to tell you about the Bruski Family. Have you seen their link on my sidebar? Ever clicked on it? Well, now it the perfect time. Take a minute and check it out…go ahead…I’ll wait.
Their website holds a lot of information, doesn’t it? Let me see if I can summarize and tell you a little bit that I know about them personally. First, this is a family of 7. A dad and mom with 5 children (4 girls, 1 boy). I got to know Robin (mom) when she was the leader of our small group within the MOPS organization at our church. She is just so genuine and sweet. Never without a smile. And never without her cup of Waffle House coffee! :)
Unfortunately I did not get to know Aaron (dad) very well. He was in charge of the Children’s Ministry in our church, and since my little ones are still in preschool, I don’t know much about the Children’s department as of yet. But Jeremy knew him from years ago when he attended our church as a teenager. He always has great things to say about Aaron.
A few years ago, the Bruski family decided they would go on a mission trip to Romania during Christmas break. From what I understand, in lieu of gifts from their family, they asked for donations to help cover the cost of the trip. One Sunday morning after their return, they presented the congregation with a slide show and testimonies about what they saw there.
I don’t remember seeing a dry eye in the entire church. Especially when their youngest, Emma, who was maybe 5 or 6 at the time, gave her testimony about the abandoned babies. She started crying while telling us all how they are only fed and changed certain times of the day, and they cry and cry with no one to love them. Ugh, I get teary thinking about it again.
Being the Godly family that they are, the Bruski’s continued to pray for the Romanian people. It was laid upon their hearts to return to those hurting people and tell them about Jesus. And that is just what they have done. They have been there for almost 2 years now. Their oldest daughter is in college this year in the States, but has returned to Romania on her breaks and has even brought her friends with her to help minister to the village where her family is staying.
This weekend we were able to help by bringing donations to the church that were going to be packed up and sent over seas to them. You can see from their website how needy these people really are. I was happy to help and donated some winter clothes, coats, and baby meds. I also took them some sewing material that was generously given by my moms’ boss at Sweet Home Quilt Company.
On my list of “40 Before 40“, #8 is to go on a mission trip. This is the trip I want to take. And if you’ve ever read my “100 Things About Me“, you know that I am afraid to fly and that will be my biggest obstacle to overcome before going on this trip. But I am seriously trying to go next year. I want my mom and some of her quilting friends to go too, and maybe we can teach some of the women in the village how to sew clothes and blankets.
Oh, and I also want to go see the abandoned babies hospital. I want to pick one up and cuddle her in a fuzzy blanket. And give her some warm milk. And sing her a song while rocking her to sleep. And I’ll try to refrain from crying until I get on the plane to come back home.
A Poem By Robin Bruski:
Part of a BIGGER plan…
I left behind a world consumed with greed
And entered into a world that is filled with need
A widow in – a one room shack
Mourning for her husband that is not coming back
Her provider, her companion – for life
Hoping for the best when she became his wife
Now she is alone, her life filled with despair
Does she not know, – Jesus is there?
Eight dirty faces, their eyes filled with wonder
Their bellies are empty, growling with hunger
Their mother is ill, their father tries to cope
No work to be found, but he won’t give up hope
In the midst of the poverty-God has a plan
He uses each of us as His feet and hands
A helpless baby left all alone
A cold metal bed is now her home
No one comes or seems to care
A volunteer picks her up-so much love to share
“Jesus loves you†,is what they sing
Knowing the only hope – is what He will bring
I say to the Lord, “What can I do, for I am just one
So may needs- so much to be doneâ€
“I know, my childâ€, He whispers to me,
“You are part of a bigger plan that you can not see.â€
“This world you are in, is a temporary place
To know Me- To love Me- and minister My Grace
To obey is better than sacrifice- I require your all
My Glory will shine through the big and the small
To whom much is given- much is required
Of this well doing may you never grow tired.â€
