No menu plan for me this week. I can still use last weeks. I got the nicest phone call last Tuesday morning in regards to my husbands weekend plans, and then all previous dinner planning flew right out the window. Let me explain:
Last Tuesday I got a call from one of our employees. He asked me if we had any family plans for the weekend. We did not except for a fishing tournament on Lake Oconee Saturday. (In my mind this means we do not have any plans because he fishes almost every weekend during the spring and fall. It’s not like he never gets to go. If it was a rare fishing trip, then I would have said “actually yes, he does have plans”). So then I asked, “Why, Scott, what’s up?”
When he answered I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He was about to put my hubby directly into Heaven itself!!! “Well, Jodi, I’d like to surprise Jeremy with an all expense paid trip to Key West to go deep sea fishing with my buddy and me.”
I tried to express my sincerest gratitude to Scott and his wife for offering to take Jermey on this trip. I’m not sure I was really able to get across how much it meant to us. My dear husband has been under such an incredible amount of stress at work lately. He needed a break. And this was perfect!
And to be perfectly honest, it was just what I needed too. In the 7 years that we’ve been married, I’ve gotten used to Jeremy taking little weekend fishing trips off and on throughout the year. I don’t understand it, but I can get so much done in the house when he is out of town. I think it just leaves open several hours each evening to do misc stuff around the house. Time that I would normally be spending with him.
This isn’t something new just since we’ve had children. Before the kiddos came along, he would joke around that he may not even recognize the house when he got back in town. I would usually take an opportunity to paint or wallpaper, or plant things in the yard. Things I liked to do but that didn’t fit into the day to day routine of married life.
This particular weekend I priced a bunch of stuff for a garage sale. I mentioned a few weeks back that I had organized the kids clothes and put them on hanger, ready to be tagged. My mom asked me last Wednesday if I wanted to do a sale with her. “Sure, when?”, I asked. “How about next weekend?” was her reply. Now at first I thought, well, that’s not much notice, but when I really thought it, I decided I’d probably wait until the last minute anyways, so what difference does it make???
Everything is priced and already in the back of my truck. Jeremy is on a flight home and should be landing in Atlanta shortly. Things are good. Oh, and I don’t have to go to the grocery store tomorrow for new menu items. And that, my friends, is GREAT!

How nice that your hubby got time away–and how nice that you got a lot accomplished. The same thing happened here this weekend. Hubby didn’t have any success on his trip though–the other two did. Hope the yardsale goes well.
