Weekly memory verse: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice.”
This was Savannah’s first memory verse. She learned it last week and earned 50 cents. All she wanted to do with that money is buy a big bag of Skittles. We stopped by the Toddler Park in town on Friday before heading to WalMart for some things, including the Skittles purchase, and as we were leaving the park, she noticed a candy machine.
For 25 cents she could get a handful of M&M’s. I could see where this was going and tried my best to explain that she had the choice to do whatever she wanted with her money, but if she got the M&M’s, there would not be enough left over for Skittles.
The M&M’s won over and I spent the remainder of the day in conversations like this:
Her: “Why didn’t you let me get the Skittles?”
Me: “You choose the M&M’s”
Her: “But I wanted Skittles”
Me: “How many quarters did Mommy tell you that you needed for Skittles?”
Her: “Two”
Me: “How many do you have?”
Her: “One”
Me: “What happened to the other one?”
Her: “I got M&M’s”
Me: “Right, so you made the choice to spend your money on M&M’s instead of Skittles”
Her: “But I wanted Skittles. Can we go back?”
She is so anxious about getting that bag of Skittles I wouldn’t be surprised if she has this weeks verse memorized by this afternoon and is asking me to pay up before bedtime! :)
