Tomorrow Savannah has her 5 year old check up. It’s been scheduled for quite some time but I haven’t mentioned it to her because I knew it would upset her. You see, back in July, when Emery had his 2 year old check up, he got 4 shots in the leg. Obviously, he screamed and cried. Savannah was there. She cried too.
In the car on the way home that day she asked me why he got all those shots. I explained about vaccinations and the reasons we feel it’s a good idea to have them. She asked about her next check up. I told her it wouldn’t be until she was 5 and that was months away. She cried all the way home.
This morning the pediatrician’s office called to confirm her appointment. The kids were playing in the next room so I quietly asked the receptionist if Savannah would be getting any s-h-o-t-s at the appointment, spelling it out instead of saying the actual word. She answered and I hung up.
Next thing I know, Savannah is standing beside me, clutching her favorite little lamb, tears in her eyes, wimpering “I don’t want to get any shots Mommy”.
Damn you Hooked on Phonics!!!!!! It’s going to be a long day!

Awww, poor Savannah. And poor Jodi.
Isn’t it amazing when you realize how quickly they learn? We see Travis about every 3 months, and the last year or so he just seems to grow up and learn so much between every visit!
By the way, how’s the “school at home” going? Sounds like Savannah already knows more than most kindergarteners!!
I hate it when you can’t just spell things out anymore either!!! Those little rascals are too smart for their own good. Hope she makes it throw the s-h-o-t-s okay!!!!
Apparently I need hooked on phonics, I meant “through” the shots!!!!!!!
can you spell I N J E C T I O N ?! better than jab which is what shots are called in england. but in england, you do not go for a yearly checkup or get jabs very open
often……phonics smonics….i can’t spell either just like jennifer!
Oh no. I think 5 is a bad one. Even if you were not doing phonics she would know how to spell it.
Somehow, kids just know.
The five year old check up was the one where, when it was over, Sam got a sticker that said “I pitched a fit”!!
Good luck – I think 5 was one of the worst…mostly because they are old enough to know it will hurt and you just can’t convince them it is all ok with a blanket! The good news is she won’t have to get them for some time now!
what shots does she have to have?
:)
OUCH!!!
We always told our girls that Five was Fabulous. Well, when Emma had her 5 year old shots. She was quick to tell the nurse, Dr. and then entire
waiting room that FIVE IS NOT SO FABULOUS.
I was so proud.
steph.
Poor, baby! But it’s nothing a slush from Sonic won’t cure! Good luck!
