On Tuesday, Savannah and I went to the library to pick out some new books. She got a handful of easy readers, including one with a baby boy sitting on the bathroom floor surrounded by toilet paper which she said was for Emery because she thought it looked like a potty training book. I came home with this:
I really came to peace with the whole homeschooling idea last year and I’m so glad that it happened that way. Given our current financial situation, we don’t have the option of private school, so at least I don’t feel like I’m being forced into homeschooling.
But I do have lots of questions and I know there is an abundance of information out there, it was just a matter of “where do I start sorting all this out”? The Homeschooling Almanac turned out to be a wonderful tool despite the fact that it was written in 2002. It covers everything from supplies and material, to State rules and regulations. From individual learning styles to setting goals for your family. It answered all my questions, including some I didn’t even know I had!
By far though, the most important thing I learned from this book was that from time to time, every homeschooling parent feels inadequate. That there are going to be good days and bad days. And that not all parents school the same way. And all that is okay. Work through it. In the end, it will be totally worth it!

I’ve known and worked with a lot of teachers and I think that any that are worth their salt have days where they feel inadequate and that they feel they have good days and bad days…days when they get through and days that it all falls flat…days when they feel they make a differece and days when they feel like chucking it all and going to live on an island somewhere and sip tropical drinks. And they work through it al. And in the end…we all know what an awesome difference they make!
I think I know just the book Savannah got. Was it “Love You Forever”? If so, that is a very sweet book. You’ll enjoy it more than Savannah. Anyway, glad you found a good resource for you. And just remember, even those of us who don’t homeschool feel like giving up sometimes:) You’ll be great! And on days that you’re not, call me!
Amen girl! I feel inadequate most days but it is a beautiful thing really. I say this because in our curriculum for next year we started some due to the begging of our children. I did not want to simply because I was ready for the break and had not yet studied the material. Well, looking a a couple of the projects I was baffled and then I directed my eyes to Jesus. I prayed and asked Him how to best do this with the same if not better effect for our children and do you know as always about a day later He showed me exactly what I needed to do. So, we have a far better project now than was in the book. I just love when He does that. So, with me it is impossible certainly but with Christ all things are possible!
In the trenches with you my sweet friend!

I’m right where you are right now. Trying to figure out just what homeschooling is going to look like for us come Fall. I’m exciting about all of the possiblities, but also overwhelmed.
