I was downloading some pictures today and found this:
I took it one night last week. The kids beg us regularly to sleep in our bed. I still don’t know how this has become a habit, but it probably has something to do with the fact that Jeremy and I don’t mind it all that much. We usually prefer that they take turns. Partially because they are bed hogs, but mainly because when we put them down for the night in the same bed they stay up for hours talking and giggling and we spend the same number of hours shouting “BE QUIET in there!!!”
This particular night we let them crawl into bed together with strict instructions that the first one we heard making a sound was going into their own room. We never even heard a snicker. But that picture made the 2 of us laugh out loud!
This picture was taken Saturday:
We had free tickets to Zoo Atlanta. The weather was beautiful and we had a nice time. The only bummer was that I failed to bring a charged battery for my camera which died after approximately 30 minutes. “Luckily” Savannah brought a disposable camera that Aunt Gina had given her and she captured all the memories of the day! :)
Here’s another picture from a while ago:
This is Savannah with her first quilt. Nanny let her pick the material from her stash in the sewing room and she helped her use the sewing machine to make it. Savannah made it just the right size for her favorite stuffed animal, Meo.
Okay, and finally, last night after I posted about Emery not feeling well, so bad in fact that he was refusing to eat, Daddy offered him a package of Smarties. (For their nutritional value, I’m sure). He gladly accepted and I heard him telling Savannah about it.
I was sitting on my bed a few minutes later when I heard awful crying. Crying that I’m certain is the result of someone’s sister taking the last Smartie. But I would be wrong.
A moment later Emery comes running up to me, tears and snot flowing freely, sobbing uncontrollably and trying to tell me what’s happened. I can’t make out anything except the word Smartie and nose.
“What Emery? Did Sissy take your Smarties?”
“I can’t understand you, Honey. Do you need to blow your nose?”
“Ummm…did you say Sissy hit you in the nose?”
Do you see where this is going? I have to tell you I was clueless. Then, for curiosity’s sake, I looked in his nose. And yep, way up there, unseen without a flashlight pointed directly into the nostril, was an orange Smartie!
Ooh, I bet that was burnin’! I had him blow his nose as hard as he could, but the thing didn’t budge. Jeremy and I both looked at each other thinking the same thing. Do we laugh or cry, and let’s pray we do not end up in the ER over this ridiculous thing. I mean, seriously, with all the goo and mucus he had in his head, I would imagine the candy would melt, wouldn’t it?
Thankfully we didn’t have to test my theory. Emery stayed unbelievably still as I cupped his face and pushed back his nose so Jeremy could shine the light in and take a pair of tweezers to the Smartie. I am hoping all the cough medicine he consumed yesterday is what led him to a decision to stick something up his nose. Yes, I know lots of kids do it, but that’s just my way of rationalizing it to myself!
And no, I do not have a picture of the Smartie surgery!

When Mary Catherine was 2 she once told me that she had cotton wool up her nose.. I thought she was referring to the fact that she had a cold and couldn’t breathe so it just FELT like there was something up there… uhh… no – she’d actually put a small piece of it up there earlier in the day. So I feel for you!
Glad the surgery went well! :)
Poor Emery! We just had that happen with Logan recently too. It can be a little scary at first. Glad you had some help with holding to see through the goo! At least Logan didn’t have all that goo in the way of my seeing his surprise in the nose. That seems to be another difference b/t boys and girls in my case, Brooke never tried putting anything up her nose and Logan attempts frequently.
Good “stuff”, Jodi!
Maybe big sister did take the last smartie and she just chose to stuff it up little brother’s nose! Sounds reasonable to me:)
