Today we were invited to a tearoom in Greensboro, Georgia called The Potted Geranium. I’ll be honest for a minute. This is not something that thrilled me. Sitting around in fancy clothes, in a fancy room, with fancy dishes, sipping tea with my pinky finger in the air is not….well… it’s not “me”. But my mom asked us to go because her friend had asked her to come along with her daughter-in-law and granddaughter who was about Savannah’s age.
So I agreed.
And ya know how sometimes you do something that you don’t want to and maybe your attitude isn’t what it should be and then low and behold, you have such a wonderful time you feel stupid for trying to use your husband’s kidney stone to get out of going? No? Just me then. Okay.
Well, we did have a delightful tea experience. The house-turned-tearoom was adorable. Our waitress was as sweet as the sugar cubes Savannah couldn’t stop playing with. The food was incredible! And the ladies we dined with made for a very pleasant afternoon. The entire experience was the essence of true Southern hospitality.
The moral(s) of the story? Take time to sit and sip a cup of tea among friends once in a while. Let go of expectations and enjoy the moment. It won’t kill you to get dressed up and eat off the china dishes on a Thursday afternoon. Don’t use your husband’s ailments as an excuse to not do something for someone else… you never know how much fun you just might have!
