This morning I read the book of 2 John. It’s only one chapter, which my kids think is hilariously funny and they want to know if they read it, will it count towards their “book goal” for school. Um…. no.
John wrote a lot here on warning against false teachers, but it was verse 3 that stood out to me: “Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.”
It occurred to me that grace, mercy, and peace – these wonderful additions to our lives – these 3 things that come from God and His Son, Jesus – they are ours as we live in TRUTH and LOVE.
Many days, especially as I homeschool, I desire more grace, mercy, and peace in my house. I get frustrated when it doesn’t swoop in and save the day. “Why?”, I wonder. This verse is my answer. I need to ask myself, “Am I conducting my day in truth and love?” Or am I manipulating my kids to serve MY best interest? Sticking to MY schedule? Doing things MY way? Where is GOD’S truth in my day? And what about HIS love? Is it being poured out onto my kids or is it being withheld due to their behavior?
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in what I have going on that I fail to recognize that the heart of my home is not the never ending schedule. It is TRUTH. And it is LOVE. And with those two heavenly gifts, comes the bonus of grace, mercy, and peace.
