One day last week I got to a point in our homeschool day where the kids didn’t need my help. They had the rest of their work laid out in front of them and I desperately needed a shower. So I left them with the following instructions:
“Okay, I’m going upstairs to take a shower. I want you to finish your school work. I do not want you to start fighting about whose elbow is not on their own side of the table. I do not want you to get silly. I really don’t think there should be much talking at all. You both have your own assignments to finish. I will be back in about 30 minutes and I think that’s plenty of time for you to get your work done.”
I exit the room and head upstairs. I take my shower, get dressed and dry my hair. When I come back down, Emery is running to the steps. “Mom! Oh my gosh! You won’t believe what we just saw! We just saw a wolf! It was right in our backyard!!!!”
Now I don’t want to call him a liar, but I gave him the “oh really, wow, that’s interesting” answer, thinking to myself there is no way he just saw a wolf. It was probably somebody’s big dog or something.
Then he says, “We got it on video!!!”
Well, now the boy has my full attention. Video? Why were you taking videos while I was in the shower? What were you recording? And hurry and play it please, I want to see what you saw!
And that’s how the above video came about. And rest assured, later on that night we googled “wolf” and “coyote” to see exactly what went traipsing through our yard, and it turns out that it was a coyote. In other news, we are still working on the fact that neither child did what they were asked to do. (sigh)
