On the afternoon of June 30th a black snake was found in the driveway of 123 Yorktown breaking the previous record and bringing the total number of snake sightings to three in 2008.
When questioned by authorities living at the residence, as to why Mr. York would break from his quest of picking up Chinese take-out to bring his family outside in witness of such a horrific site, he commented, “I thought it would be fun to see the looks on their faces.”
The authorities replied that Mr. York should be considered very fortunate to have had in his hand fried rice, egg rolls, and mongolian beef upon his return later that evening.
The 6 foot monster marks the longest black snake ever recorded in the York’s history. When Lucy, previously dubbed “the snake eating wonder cat” with her heroric actions months before, was questioned as to why she sat idly by as the snake made himself comfortable beneath the vehicle less than 10 feet away, she remained silent.
The family believes Lucy may be upset about how much they’ve been out of town lately and could possibly be on strike. This is however, just speculation, as she has not said anything to anyone in several days.
Meanwhile Mr. York, refusing to honor the wishes of the authorities and beat the snake over the head with his golf club until it would never EVER slither again, gently placed the sneaky serpent back in woods of Yorktown.

Nice to see Mr. York putting that nine iron to good use.
I can just see you now – freaking out! Good thing Jeremy was picking up dinner and not you!
OMG- I would have freaked!!!
I see that Mr. York and a certain Mr. Henderson have the same idea of getting rid of a pesky snake. Me, I’m with the authorities…
Keep in mind this is a GOOD snake. I can and will kill/eat venomous snakes that could cause many more problems than a king/black snake. There’s a reason you have a snake this large around, between rodents and other, not so good, snakes…I’d much rather have a black snake in my yard than a copperhead or cottonmouth… :-)
This is another of the lessons he learned from his father – not one I agree with personally but it seems it is a family curse with the brothers three.
That was really well written! Loved it. You were cracking me up.
Much love,

It is so funny you post this today, because my dear hubby just killed what we think may have been a copperhead on our back porch just yesterday!!!!! It is the only thing I don’t like about living in the tropical climate of Southwest Florida….all the nice little friends you find in your yard.
oh, poor snake!!
