Well, all I can say is that Fay was an elusive little tropical storm, wasn’t she? I cannot recall all the places she was predicted to hit in Florida, before she’d change her mind and surprise a whole ‘nother coastline! Just like a woman.
Last week the weather forecasters told us to prepare for lots and lots of rain. Each day the sun shined on. Over the weekend it came and went in spurts. Jeremy was in south Georgia which got hit pretty hard. But up north, where we are, we’d get excited about 10 or 15 minutes worth of sprinkling.
Why all the excitement? Remember our horrible, ugly drought last year? The main cause of that were very little hurricanes and tropical storms in the Atlantic. I’m not even sure if any hit our coastline and I don’t have time to google it today. Just believe me when I say “we got no rain in 2007!” The majority of our rain falls this time of the year when the hurricanes come roaring in, dumping inches upon inches of water into our lakes and streams.
I was beginning to wonder if Fay would betray us, but then in the early hours of today, I heard it falling steadily. When I got up this morning it was still pouring so I read my Bible on the covered porch. Ahhhh…that was so nice!
Before lunch it really started coming down! I took the kids outside to watch it and the next thing I know, they’ve put on swimwear.
Can you tell how hard it’s raining in that picture? I mean to tell ya, it was a complete down pour. They were both soaked within minutes. And having the most fun I think they’ve ever had at our house.
As a matter of fact, it was coming down so hard and so fast, all of a sudden there was a little gulley of water flowing between our house and the neighbors. They ran through it and splashed in it so long that eventually it became nothing more than a huge mud pit!
Lucky for us, we’re growing kids and not grass!
So thank you Fay, for today! We’ve enjoyed every minute of our gloomy rainy day. From sleeping in and soothing quiet times, to rainy play followed by long afternoon naps. It’s been wonderful. Glad you decided to stop on by!

How fun!! I love playing in the rain… especially when I have no where else to go and nothing else to do :)
